Two pets

Two pets
We had a few gusty hours last night (not connected to much heavier winds expected two days from now when a hurricane will blow through). Our volunteer sunflower cracked in the wind. So we brought it in and introduced it to Minnie. I think they'd already met on their own outside the door.

Minnie, like all cats (and other animals) uses her nose to reassure herself that this is indeed the friendly flower she had already met. I used to envy my cat a little for this powerful source of certainty: when in doubt, trust your nose! One time I brought home a very life like toy cat. She was very wary of it at first, blew her fur up to make herself look twice the size, approached very carefully ... but once she'd had a chance to smell its muzzle and its rear end, that was that: she never gave it the time of day again. In other words: "it may look just like a cat, but if it doesn't SMELL like a cat, then it's definitely NOT a cat." I wish I had a sense that could give me the same degree of certainty about things! :))
A very beautiful portrait of both pets, Justfolk. Hope the hurricane will pass you by!

Thanks, Annalia. you are right about how cats work out the world around themselves. It would indeed be a great asset for ourselves!

We're all expecting the worst from the hurricane tomorrow night. Today, Thursday, was a beautiful day. We went for a 6km walk along the coast and, although the surf has already started to get rough, otherwise it was a placid day. Twenty-four hours from now we will be feeling the storm rising. We still don't know exactly where the eye will pass us (to the east or west, or indeed overhead), so we don't know the exact winds that will hit. Fingers are crossed.
