Cleaning the hops flowers before drying them

These were some of the hops growing in my back yard, planted
generations ago by someone who used them in their cooking. The vines
return every year.
They are not a very strong variety, though the smell strikes me as a
good one to use in my beer, if I ever get around to brewing again.
They probably need more hot weather than we had this summer to produce
a stronger aroma.

Twenty-odd years ago, I used to make all my own beer, putting down a few batches every month. I used a lot of local hops then, grown by a friend of mine. His were wonderfully strong, clearly a different variety from these. But the flavour here is a good edgy kind of pungent. Just weak.
