A few years ago, there was some discussion as to whether or not teal was a period color. I think this painting alone ends that debate.

However, there is a lot to love about her dress. The front right is closed over the front left - most likely with hooks and eyes since we don't see any pins. She has a black kirtle of some sort on underneath - popular in the late 15th/early 16th C.
