View of Mount Shasta in the current drought, June 18, 2021

This year, it was shocking to see a dark Shasta, almost without snow already in June, seeming much more solid, at once closer and harder to make out, brooding among the lower peaks. Okay, the flat, warm afternoon light (seen from the west) probably strengthened the effect; the difference was weirdly, profoundly disturbing.
