The Tulip in the Veggie Garden

A couple decades ago I planted a Lily-and-Tulip garden behind the garage; in the spring it looked like this and in the summer like this. But eventually we figured out that high-density-bulb configuration was impossible to weed properly, so Joan annexed it for her veggie garden and we distributed a few of the flowers to other beds. Twelve or fifteen years ago.

But we missed a few of each. For a while we had a couple tulips growing in the lawn; there are still one or two hiding under the forsythia. And this one, all by itself, growing today dead center where Joan will be planting beans and broccoli and tomatoes a month or so down the road.

Sure is pretty.
