The Pond

Most days we pass this farm on our way to work. The pond is pretty variable; by mid-August it's often completely gone. But often it looks like this, especially in the spring. Geese nest along its edge, mallards sometimes swim here; we think we've even seen sandpipers.

At the same time, the water threatens these folks' yard. A few years back, they installed a drainage system in what was clearly an effort to control this flood. It worked for a few months....
