A View from Dow Road

John Dow moved to Eaton County in 1837, settling on the edge of what was then Chester Township. He was promptly elected township supervisor. When the township was split a few years later he ended up in Roxand, where he was soon elected supervisor. Eventually he built a house across the road, in Sunfield Township. He became Sunfield's supervisor. For 43 years he served his neighbors as township leader, in three jurisdictions, without moving off his farm.
Of course they named the town line road after him. His descendants still own part of the old farm.
I think this is on the (former) Sackett property, the next farm north on the Sunfield side of the road.
