Lizard St EC1
Both this and Helmet Row (next picture) were built on land belonging to the Ironmongers' Company. The names refer to the Ironmongers' coat of arms, which features a knight's helmet supported by two salamanders, or lizards

It would be fun if there were lizards crawling around in the gardens but, as you'll see from the description, the name relates to a coat of arms rather than a reptile!

I think you might be disappointed in that, Gloucester. It is a peninsula in Cornwall and the most southern part of the British mainland but not shaped like a giant lizard (or maybe I lack imagination?) According to Wikipedia the name "is most probably a corruption of the Cornish name "Lys Ardh", meaning "high court"". But, purely coincidentally, continues Wikipedia, much of it is composed of a rock called serpentinite...
Thanks for inspiring me to do that bit of research!
Even if it isn't shaped like a lizard it's a lovely place to visit. I've had some good camping holidays in that part of the country.
