Contador I

The uniqueness of this 17th century style cabinet is undoubtedly a consequence of the exotic influences received in Portugal through the time of the Discoveries.
They are decorated with golden filigree ironwork, an Indian influence, which applied to the wood, a very dark wood, make a contrast that is exclusively Portuguese and sometimes inlaid ivory. A Portuguese cabinet is not to be confused with French, Spanish, Dutch or German cabinets. In fact, this originality extends to all 17th century Portuguese furniture, in such a way that the American art historian Robert Smith designated the furniture of that period as the Portuguese national style.
