The moat has a purpose.Just told it to Maggs, one click above.
The water is there for a well defined health measure, you can see it if you look to the lateral sides of it, for it was a mandatory,years ago, in the way in to have your "feet" wet in order to avoid parasites from outside.
It was standard procedure and still some people do it in farms and animal living areas …
