What I'd most like played at my funeral would be: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqRjwvAMgnA, with or without the third movement.

I say "would be" rather than "will be" because, in accordance with my stated wishes, I won't be having a funeral.

For 44 years it's been my favourite piece, but I could never enjoy it (or any other recording) with Shirley because she had little or no ear for music.

But she enjoyed Riverdance?

I like the largos from your choice, but not the allegros.

My choice would be Barber's Adagio for Strings.

1. The Riverdance music was stunning but she probably enjoyed the show more for the spectacle. Both were so 'involving' that I (and probably half the audience) almost had to be restrained from standing up and joining in the dancing.

2. It needs both. Barber's is such unadulterated largo that I'd worry about my cholesterol levels. I'll settle for a haircut and shave.
