The Oxford Canal memorial at Hythe Bridge marks the end of the canal and is known locally as "The Spider" even though it has only six legs. It was designed by the artist William Bird to commemorate 200 years of the Oxford Canal, 1790-1990, and was unveiled by the Lord Mayor of Oxford on 29 September 1993.
