In the early 1700s The availability of stones and clean water were the two major considerations for building a home, and sadly they were not fussy where the stones came from, many cairns survived untouched others fared less well,

...a true reminder of the civilizational beginning, Roger...great find...

Superbly composed Roger..........tallest at the back, shortest at the front.........perfectly organised!

The scene is really beautiful........I love the various green and brown hues in the landscape and the detail you've captured in the remains of the cairn. The sheep's bum is nicely placed in the frame andI like the patch of sky and clouds too.

The PiP is just as beautiful............unlike Maggie, I see nothing "naughty" at all :-))). The colours in the landscape are just as lovely and I'm impressed you got some definition in the clouds too. There's always something mysterious about standing stones, wherever they are!

The area has so many prehistoric monuments and historical sites, many folk don't bother to stop at slightly isolated stones like this,

It has always been the way that old structures are robbed of stones for building new. Much easier than quarrying and carrying them!!
