And one more story is told by your beautiful image: those bays cut out at some of the leaves are not munched by caterpillars. In this very case, solitary bees (leafcutter bees) got the basic material for their nurseries here. Many of them are specialized on only one plant variety - so the owner of this cherry tree decides to cut it down, he will affect hundreds or thousands of solitary bees..
