That Sinking Feeling

A Pill Box on the beach at Porlock Weir, the shifting shingle has had a dramatic effect although it has taken around Sixty Years, the headlnd across the bay and in the background is one of a number of places where Exmoor meets the sea,

A rather ornate pillbox, Roger; obviously with a facing of local stone. There is one on the beach in Norfolk, brick-built and not so attractive, which has fallen off the cliff because of erosion.

What a great find! I love the stonework in that old bunker and it must have been quite big before it started sinking. I'm guessing it was built with local stone.................and now it's being taken back from whence it came..!!

What a great find!! The leaning tower of Porlock!
Although I suppose we can assume its designer didn't reckon on more than a few years of use, so no need for deep pile foundations! Such savings all contribute to the war effort!

I suspect it was just built on a concrete slab that the sea has undermined but it has had a good run and maybe the sea will spit it back out at some point in the future, appreciate your comments Peter, thank you.

I used to have an interest in Pill boxes and could recognise the purpose they were designed for. Machine Gun, Anti Aircraft and so on, but this one ! Lunar observation perhaps.!!!
