At Wollongong loco 5597 was uncoupled and turned for 12 kms of tender first running to Thirroul. October 1966.

This 55 class, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales_D55_class_locomotive , was the second improved type of the 50 class first introduced in 1896. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales_D50_class_locomotive en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales_D50_class_locomotive with outside Southern valve gear.
The 53 class had the 50's improvements from new. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales_D53_class_locomotive

There were only a couple of examples of 55s operating in 1966 and this one hauled the farewell tour in 1967. www.ipernity.com/doc/grahamh/24211117/in/album/469003

Several 50s and 53s lasted until the final months of steam at the end of 1972 as haulers of non-air braked coal wagons in the Newcastle area..
