A souvenir envelope organised by the Alice Springs Stamp Club to celebrate the 50th anniversary run of the Commonwealth Railway's Ghan Train. I bought a few of these on the train as it approached Alice Springs. Dept Pt Augusta on std gauge on Monday early afternoon 2ish, around midnight transfer to the 3'6" gauge train at Maree (gauge transfers, a great Australian tradition) and arrive 3-4 hours late on the Wednesday morning 11ish.

Thanks Peter. I tried stamp collecting as a child but I don't have enough greed or OCD :-). This was different. A standard gauge line was being constructed along a more reliable route than this 3'6" line which would mean the end to this iconic train in roughly a year after this. I bought a few of them.
