SC125 post 8 December – going to the theatre or movies. www.ipernity.com/group/daysincolour365/discuss/199774 Haydn Orpheum Picture Palace The Hayden Orpheum at Cremorne began life as The Orpheum on October 3, 1935. It was, at the time, a much grander movie theatre than most suburban movie houses, and for many years made the clumsily-worded boast of being “Sydney’s only suburban city movie theatre”. The justification for this claim was that it was built as a theatre, and could screen films or live cast musicals for its 1735 seats, over two levels. Backstage there were dressing rooms, an orchestra pit, and a functioning fly-tower to store and ‘fly’ scenery. It was a proper ‘legit’ stage and played host to the Australian ballet etc… In December, 1986, Mike Walsh O.B.E bought The Orpheum for his Hayden Group of Companies… Loving attention was paid to art deco restoration and creation, and a Mighty Wurlitzer organ from the Fresno Theatre in California was installed. The original Orpheum had been built with chambers for this, but one was never installed. A spectacularly restored Hayden Orpheum opened on December 9, 1987. orpheum.com.au/history

This is an Italian term which literally means 'light-dark'. In paintings the description refers to clear tonal contrasts which are often used to suggest the volume and modelling of the subjects depicted. Artists who are famed for the use of chiaroscuro include Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio. nationalgallery.org.uk/paintings/glossary/chiaroscuro Scavenger Hunt 37Scav2024 Style of Old Master Second year Scavenger Hunt www.ipernity.com/group/2445860/discuss/197768

Tassie cheese

23 Nov 2024 9 14 58
Sunday challenge 123 - Celebrating cheese. Tasmania is Australia’s oldest cheese-making state... Cheesemaking in Australia is a distinctly European tradition, introduced with the first colonists' arrival. Generally speaking, Tasmania’s temperate climate, ample rainfall and rich soils are more similar to the northern European environments and landscapes from which many of those early settlers came. Therefore, Tasmania seems a natural fit for the food and farming traditions brought across by those early colonists. It makes sense, then, that a dairy industry soon boomed here and that Tasmania became the site of Australia’s first ever cheese factory: set up by the Van Diemen’s Land Company in 1820. firstlighttravel.com.au/blog/cheeselovers-guide-to-tasmania

Sunday challenge 122 - Photograph something that depicts who you are or what you feel... When life gives you lemons, make lemonade is a proverbial phrase used to encourage optimism and a positive can-do attitude in the face of adversity or misfortune. Lemons suggest sourness or difficulty in life; making lemonade is turning them into something positive or desirable. Wikipedia It is what it is, best to just get on with it, and savour every moment!
