Corfe Castle

Looking down on the castle from a nearby hilltop. This castle was started in the 11th century by William the Conqueror and was one of the first English castles to be built of stone. It was beseiged during the English Civil War and was eventually captured in 1645 and partly destoyed to prevent its re-use as a fortress. Lots of excellent walks on the surrounding hills.
