History on our doorstep.

The message, carved on a beech tree near our village reads "Marking George V Silver Jubilee May 1935". The second set of initials of the lads who carved this, SJ, was someone we knew well and only died a couple of years ago. Another nearby tree records the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915.
