The colours are more accurate in the big version on black (type Z or click the pic; if you want to make it even bigger click the broken rectangle at top right).

There is an air of genteel prosperity about this part of town - at least in the picture. The solidity of the buildings and the fence and the strong vertical of the water tower - with the filigree of the smaller branches and, above all, the shadow of the plant hanger. And no people. Anywhere.

Yes, the shadow of the plant hanger was important to me, Bob. The problem was getting it in the right part of the picture. The garage had so many points of interest that I took photo after photo, and finally settled on this one. The other question that occupied me was whether the eaves should overlap the tower.

John, I'm glad they didn't. The tower is so strong that breaking it more than the once already at the bottom would, I suspect, weaken the picture.

A beautifully sharp and details image John. I like the shape of the water tower, and the tree branches look lovely against the sky.

..............and as rdhimnm notes, still no people!

Thanks, Keith, especially for reminding me of the attractiveness of the tower. That thought has been lurking in the recesses at the back of my mind, but you moved it to the front for me.

Nad while thinking about your remark about the trees I realized that this photo is arranged similarly to a cartoon image from Disney's Golden Age, in which shots were taken through multiple cels spaced apart to create an impression of depth. And of Canadian landscape painting, which signals depth only through regression of planes. So thanks again.

An outstanding example of what you do so well.As others noted, a perfect composition, turning an everyday scene into an exquisite assembly of lines, colors, textures and shapes. And yes, the larger version makes all of this more evident.

Incidentally, there's also a Petrolia in California, known for rugged folk living off the grid and growing a fine crop of marijuana.

There are similarities between the two Petrolias, Sarah. Both were once known as Petrolea, for one thing. Petrolia, CA, was the site of the first oil well in CA, while Petrolia, ON, is just north of Oil Springs, ON, the site of the first commercial oil well in North America. Petrolia, ON, has several fine buildings put up during oil booms; I have some photos of them from about ten years ago that I may post, now that I've recalled them.
