Canada has, yet again, been named the second-best country in the world by US News & World Report:
globalnews.ca/news/3293192/canada-2nd-best-country-2017-world-rankings-survey

The ranks are stacked against the New World, though, by the inclusion of a heritage category. That's giving the Old World a few thousand years' head start there, eh?! You call that fair? You call that fair?

Well, I'm sure Mr. Trump'll be tweeting about this and demanding Congress investigate what an American publication is doing engaging in this Europhile jiggery-pokery.

We whupped them, though, which is good enough.

Oh -- congratulations, Switzerland.

Assuming no such thing. I was thinking of transgender pronouns, for example, and the end of free speech. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LpbnKvyZrc

Sorry. What we usually think of idiotic bills like this is that they'll be struck down by the Supreme Court. The SC has been saving us a lot lately. What I most worry about here is the hate speech laws. They're being used less, but they're still antidemocratic. Of course, we haven't got as far as the UK, where street preachers are arrested for being menacing.

Sometimes I'm glad I'm old.

I don't imagine will make much difference, but of course that's not the point. This is politicians passing laws not to help people but to make themselves look caring and concerned. But that's the story of the Wynne government in Ontario.

Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grand-children are once more slaves.

Oh, I think thee's been a propaganda effort in this country and others to make people submissive. After the pre-boomers and boomers started questioning everything, schooling changed to emphasize getting along with others, being inclusive, etc., and people have been taught to worry about everything, especially their pensions. So Berkeley students, who 50 years ago were fighting for freedom of speech, are now trying to suppress it.

And you get "leaders" like the head of the Ontario Conservatives, who hasn't said a word about Bill 89. I think he figures he's going to win the next election, so he won't rock the boat, but the Conservatives have managed to throw away three consecutive elections they should have won.
