Is this your good-bye photo? Were you able to download the rest of the collection? Where are you going? Did I miss that conversation while I had my back turned?

I dunno, Sarah. There's six or seven weeks to go yet. And maybe there'll be a buyout (I'd bet against that, but still). No idea where I'm going yet. Have you had any further thoughts?

I'll go where you go, not to be biblical about it.
But probably more as an observer than as a participant. I'm working on another book, and having a full-time plus job and being a writer is quite enough for this aging brain at the moment.

As for alternatives to Flickr, if you're determined not to go that route, there's still fotocommunity.com, which I think I've mentioned at the time of the Flickr exit. At least they've been around for a long time and hopefully more stable. They're very Europe-focused, though.

Flickr gets worse every time I visit, Sarah. I especially dislike the row of thumbnails under each photo. It destroys composition by distracting the viewer from the photo. Flickr slow, clunky, and murky. I haven't had a look at fotocommunity yet but will.

I looked at fotocommunity long before I joined Flickr, but just as a viewer, not as a member, so I can't speak to its functionality. It's based in Germany, which means some of the content is in German, but it looks to me like its members are from all over the place -- at a quick glance, I even found a guy from Toronto:

I apologize for the tardy reply, Diane. I abominate Flickr. Composition is an important part of any photograph, and all the distractions around the photo destroy composition. And I want a white background. And a site that's reasonably quick. And a site where you don't have to spend five minutes hunting for functions that should be reachable from the photo page. And....

I'm still looking.

I can't stand the page layout, either. Almost no margins around photos, so they are huge and jammed together. Oh, functions on websites everywhere are now hidden. Even though hidden, it supposedly makes the features "discoverable" - I'm not kidding - and the purpose is to make the page look uncluttered. It's ridiculous and really kind of arrogant to design things that people can't use efficiently.

Quite interesting, not only for the woman's uniform but also for the birdcages (wonder why they're there?) and the play of light and shadow in the background. Good musical selection, too.

Thanks, Alan. Yes, I don't think there would be that many birdcages on a ship. I mainly like how happy the whole shot is -- the light and shade plays an important role in that.
