Winter scene in Rough Standhills on the south side of the Limb Valley in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

Rough Standhills is a mainly coniferous plantation, with birch, beech and oak on its margins. This photo was taken on the south-western margin. An open area of young beeches, their slender trunks strikingly grey and green with lichen and algae, contrast with the dark closely-spaced conifers beyond.
