Cortamonte or Yunza in Hualhuas - February 1968

The tree has been chosen, cut and is now planted in the center of the plaza (main square) of the little village of Hualhuas. Beer or Chicha drinking is part of the feast.

Tumbamonte is also called Cortamonte...All those that dance around the "monte"the tree, get a chance to cut it down. The one that "tumba" cuts down the tree is the "mayordomo" the sponsor , of next year's tumbamonte In the PIP you can see the pair dancing with the axe
