I am stunned. What GORGEOUS workmanship!! Those are beads? They look like pen shafts to me. I used to turn pens on a wood lathe, and I'm so very impressed by what I see here! I would be fascinated to know how you do these. Incredible, outstanding work!!

Thanks, Janet! I haven't really played with wood turning yet, but it's on The List. :D (and then maybe I'll try making some of those pens everyone's always asking about... ;) )

(hmm, need to add more pics, and maybe even some words...) Basically, glass rods are melted in a flame; the glass is wound around thin metal rods, beads are shaped using heat and gravity, and various graphite or metal tools.

These beads are more decorative than functional - the little one is around 5" long, the biggest just over 10".
