Newtown, Connecticut

This fairly ordinary suburban community got famous in December 2012 because of the lunatic teen who shot up the school. It was a terrible tragedy, and many people have tried to adopt it as a support for their own agendas, which it is not and cannot be. Until the shooting, though, Newtown was chiefly known for having a big flagpole smack dab in the middle of the main street, Route 25. It's still there.
