C'est le pont Mac-Racken construit en 1824 (à l'origine Pont d'Orléans). La dénomination actuelle est un hommage au sergent James Mac-Racken qui, dans la nuit du 5 août 1944, a désamorcé les 15 caisses de dynamite que les Allemands avaient placées sur le pont. Des trois ponts qui existaient à ce moment en ville, c'est le seul qui subsiste après guerre. D'ailleurs, c'est la rivière Mayenne dans la ville de Mayenne dans le département Mayenne... Von den drei Brücken, die es damals in der Stadt gab, ist diese die einzige, die nach dem Krieg erhalten bleibt. Übrigens, dies ist der Fluss Mayenne in der Stadt Mayenne im Departement Mayenne...

... au-dessus de la Mayenne. C'est là que se trouve le Château de Mayenne, une ancienne résidence carolingienne du Xe siècle. Il est réaménagé plusieurs fois au cours du Moyen Âge; perdant son rôle de résidence féodale il devient un château de garnison à partir du XIVe siècle avant d'être transformé en prison au XVIIIe siècle. Le château sera finalement racheté par la ville de Mayenne en 1936 avant qu'il ne devienne un musée consacré à l'histoire de la Mayenne. There lies the Mayenne fortress, a former Carolingian residence from the 10th century. It was remodelled several times during the Middle Ages, lost its role as a feudal residence and became a garrison castle from the 14th century before being converted into a prison in the 18th century. In 1936, the castle was finally bought by the city of Mayenne and transformed into a museum dedicated to the history of Mayenne. Dort liegt die Burg Mayenne, eine ehemalige karolingische Residenz aus dem 10. Jh. Im Laufe des Mittelalters wurde sie mehrmals umgebaut, verlor ihre Rolle als feudaler Wohnsitz und wurde ab dem 14. Jh. zu einer Garnisonsburg, bevor es im 18. Jh. in ein Gefängnis umgewandelt wurde. 1936 wurde die Burg von der Stadt Mayenne gekauft und in ein Museum für die Geschichte der Mayenne umgewandelt. Zur Erklärung : MAYENNE ist der Name des Departements, der Stadt und des Flusses.

Sainte Suzanne, la "Perle du Maine" est une ancienne place forte du XIe siècle, située sur une colline rocheuse en forme de triangle, à 70 m au-dessus du cours de la rivière Erve. Sa célèbre histoire remonte au siège infructueux de Guillaume le Conquérant entre 1083 et 1086. AN ABSOLUTELY INAVOIDABLE HIGHLIGHT. Sainte Suzanne, the "Pearl of Maine" is an old, fortified place from the 11th century, located on a rocky hill in the shape of a triangle, 70 m above the course of the river Erve. Its famous story goes back to the unsuccessful siege of William the Conqueror between 1083 and 1086. EIN ABSOLUT UNUMGÄNGLICHES HIGHLIGHT. Sainte Suzanne, die "Perle von Maine" ist ein alter, befestigter Ort aus dem 11. Jh., gelegen auf einer felsigen Erhebung in Form eines Dreiecks, 70 m über dem Lauf des Flusses Erve. Seine berühmte Geschichte geht zurück auf die erfolglose Belagerung Wilhelms des Eroberers zwischen 1083 und 1086.

The old village is nestled on its hill and at its foot the mill district; so village at the top, river at the bottom (1st PiP) ... The history of Sainte-Suzanne was also made over the water and at the slow pace of these many mills in the Erve valley. "LES PIEDS DANS L'EAU". Le vieux village est nichée sur sa colline et à son pied le quartier des moulins; donc village en haut, rivière en bas (1° PiP)... L'histoire de Sainte-Suzanne s'est aussi faite au fil de l'eau et au rythme lent de ces nombreux moulins dans la vallée de l'Erve. "DIE FÜSSE IM WASSER". Das alte Dorf liegt auf seinem Hügel und an seinem Fuss schmiegt sich das Mühlenviertel; also Dorf oben, Fluss unten (1. PiP) ... Die Geschichte von Sainte-Suzanne wurde auch über dem Wasser und im langsamen Rhythmus dieser vielen Mühlen im Erve-Tal geschrieben.

At our market place there is this quaint bistro, where you can sit outside in any season and enjoy your coffee (or whatever you want).

This tower is the vestige of the old parish church, built during the 12th century and dedicated to Saint-Georges. The old chuch (see PIP) was demolished in February 1963, and the bell tower is all what remains. It was restored the same year and retains its function of call to prayer with its 3 bells.

... ce jour, le 19 août pour la Journée Mondiale de la Photographie, mais aussi à l'intérieur de cette vielle tour du 12ème siècle. L'horloge et les cloches témoignent du passé mais sont à jamais arrêtés. Ce sont les seules vestiges de l'ancienne église paroissiale Saint Georges (voir PiP) qui a été démolie en 1963, le clocher est tout ce qui reste. DIE ZEIT STEHT STILL ... am heutigen Tag, 19.August, zum Weltfotografietag, aber auch in diesem alten Glockenturm aus dem 12. Jh. Die Uhr und die Glocken zeugen von der Vergangenheit, stehen aber für immer still. Es sind die einzigen Reste der alten Pfarrkirche Saint Georges (siehe PIP), sie wurde 1963 abgerissen, der Turm ist alles, was übrig geblieben ist..

...le 18 septembre : le château de Montesson (XIVe au XVIIe siècles) est entouré de douves et se compose d'un châtelet d'entrée du XVIe siècle, de l'ancien logis seigneurial médiéval et du corps principal construit au XVIIe siècle. Le pavillon d'entrée est remarquable par son toit en contrecourbes sur les quatre côtés, sa façade en granit ornée des armes de la Famille de Montesson ainsi que sa tour ronde à bulbe à la couverture d'ardoise. MY GEM OF THE HERITAGE DAYS on September 18: Montesson Castle (14th - 17th C.) is surrounded by a moat and consists of an entrance gate from the 16th C., the old medieval residence and the main building built in the 17th C. The entrance pavilion is remarkable for its roof which is curved in opposite directions on all four sides, the granite facade adorned with the family coat of arms of the Montesson family and a round onion dome with a slate roof. MEIN SCHMUCKSTÜCK AM DENKMALTAG am 18. September : Montesson (14. - 17. Jh.) ist von einem Wassergraben umgeben und besteht aus einem Eingangstorhaus aus dem 16. Jh., der alten mittelalterlichen Residenz und dem im 17. Jh. erbauten Hauptgebäude. Der Eingangspavillon ist bemerkenswert für sein an allen vier Seiten gegenläufig gekrümmtem Dach, der mit dem Familienwappen der Familie Montesson geschmückten Granitfassade sowie einem runden Zwiebelturm mit Schieferdach.

The viewpoint (the 3rd built) with 18,5 m high and 108 steps, was inaugurated in 1994. It stands on the Mount Avaloirs , the highest point of the Armorican Massif and the "Big West" (Normandy, Brittany and Loire-Valley) with its 417 m.
