Fogbound Princess, St. Johns, Newfoundland

Best enlarged
The departure of the P&O cruise ship Grand Princess was delayed for several hours when fog rolled in off the Atlantic to smother the 'Narrows", the only entrance to St. John's Harbour, a narrow channel between the Southside and Signal hills. It has a least depth of 11 metres and at its narrowest point near Chain Rock is 61 metres wide. The ship has a beam of 36 metres and a draught of nearly 8 metres. I can think of many worse places and circumstances in which to be fogbound!

I must say I was surprised to see your description of her being part of the P&O line, I I have travelled on that line a few times and did not know this was part of it. However the photo does not lie, even after further research tells me, as suspected she really belongs to The 'Princess Cruise Line' where all the ships have princess in their title. Actually, both lines are part of Carnival PLC which explains the joining here.
Ah, just seen when you took this. Yes in 2004 things where slightly different. She still looks like a very modern ship here.
Best wishes, Herb
