Kiliansbrunnen - St Kilian Fountain

In der Mitte des Bahnhofsplatzes in Würzburg steht auf einem Podest der Kiliansbrunnen, der im Juli 1895 von Prinzregent Luitpold eingeweiht wurde. Der Kiliansbrunnen war eine Gegengabe des Prinzregenten Luitpold an die Würzburger, nachdem diese vor der Residenz den Frankoniabrunnen zu Ehren von Luitpold errichtet hatten.Die Bronzefigur des St. Kilian wurde 1943 abgenommen, um sie für die Rüstungsproduktion einzuschmelzen. Im Jahr 1949 konnte diese Statue aus einem Hamburger Schrottlager zurück gekauft werden, wurde montiert und am 8. Juli 1949 wieder ihrer Bestimmung übergeben.

The St Kilian fountain stands on a pedestal in the middle of the forecourt, which was inaugurated in July 1895 by Prince Regent Luitpold and is the only existing remnant of the former station. The St Kilian fountain was a gift from the Prince Regent to Würzburg; after this the Franconia fountains were built in front of the Residence in honour of Luitpold. A bronze statue of St. Kilian stood over the basin of the fountain from 1895 to 1943. This was removed in 1943 to melt down for the production of armaments. The statue was bought back from a Hamburg scrap yard and restored on 8 July 1949.
