Hagia Sophia - das berühmte Deesis-Mosaik - the famous Deesis-Mosaic

Nach der Eroberung Konstantinopels durch die Türken 1453 wurde die Hagia Sophia in die Hauptmoschee des Osmanischen Reiches umgewandelt, wobei alle Mosaiken mit bildlichen Darstellungen überputzt oder zerstört wurden. Das Wenige, was nicht während und nach der Transformation zur Moschee vernichtet wurde, ist heute wieder freigelegt, darunter das bekannte Deesis-Mosaik (Dreipersonengruppe mit Christus in der Mitte und Maria und Johannes der Täufer an den Seiten). Das Foto zeigt einen Ausschnitt davon mit Johannes dem Täufer.
Die Hagia Sophia zählt zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe.

After the conquest of Constantinople by the Turks in 1453, the Hagia Sophia was converted into the main mosque of the Ottoman Empire, all mosaics with pictorial representations were plastered over or destroyed . The little that was not destroyed during and after the transformation to the mosque is uncovered again today, including the famous Deesis mosaic (three persons group with Christ at the center and Mary and John the Baptist on the sides). The Hagia Sophia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
