"GLÜCKSSCHWEIN" -
Lucky pig; a pig as a lucky charm.
Elector Carl-Theodor von der Pfalz (1724 - 1799) is of such great importance for Schwetzingen's history that the city erected a monument to him in the anniversary year of 2016. The sculptor Peter Lenk from Bodman-Ludwigshafen could be won as an artist, who depicts the sovereign in the company of a rococo lady riding a pig.
The artist, known for his provocative work, was inspired by a statement made by the Prussian King Friederich the Great for this unusual equestrian monument called "Glücksschwein" "designated. The enlightened monarch Carl-Theodor was ridiculed for his love of peace as a coward.
In terms of foreign policy and military it was rather insignificant; rather, he was interested in the fine arts and music. This is why Peter Lenk created an allegory of the muses with this flirtatious and revealing rider, from whom Carl-Theodor was kissed so profusely. It is reasonable to assume that the rococo lady also erected a monument to the Elector's mistresses.
