They are beginning try and slow down the pace of decay on this one but its going to take a lot of public money to make it stable. Best Wishes James

Its a sham castle of 1806-1814 design by Sir Robert Smirke (who was far happier designing Greek Revival Buildings). It was built for the Earls of Lonsdale and was reputed to have had 260 rooms and to have cost £77,000 a truly vast sum of money at the time. The house's contents were sold about 1947 and I think the roof came off about 1957. Best Wishes James
