Sand Creek Massacre Site


On November 29th, 1864 this was the site of one of the most shameful events in Colorado history.
700 United States troops under the command of Colonel John Chivington massacred 200 Indians, mostly women and children, without provocation. Many of the corpses were mutilated by the soldiers.
