pumpkins and artichokes

We cut the tops off these old tractor tyres, and have been filling them with compost, dirt from plant pots, stuff from the worm farm etc. They were about 3/4 full, so I added anothere 15cm of good compost to them today and planted Queensland Blue pumpkin seeds in one, and globe artichoke seeds in the other. The chooks tend to leave both plants alone, but until they have grown big enough to defend themselves, I've given them a little fence for protection.
