ODE TO VEGETARIANS

#
are grazing animals happier than others?
at least they have the meadow within rich of their reaping
and dissatisfied mouths
some like the goats eat the stones on the way
that facilitate the digestion
in their abomasums
others incessantly ruminate
as if they were praying the rosary
and
while chewing they look like an ox at the palace

#
however
not all is a bed of roses
animals that don't graze stay on watch
waiting for the right moment to go to the butcher's
and then the carnage
justifies the shine of their fur

#
and what about the man grazing too?
there are a lot of vegetarians out there
but sometimes they eat shrimp and clams at Bulhão Pato recipe
on behalf of food diversity
and plutocracy
wine is paid separately
and tips aren't allowed

#
and now it seems to me that I'll continue contemplating the meadow
to decide whether or not I want to be a vegetarian

será que os animais de pasto são mais felizes do que os outros?
pelo menos têm o prado ao acance de suas bocas ceifadoras
e insatifeitas
alguns como as cabras comem as pedras do caminho
que lhes facilita a digestão
nos bandulhos
outros ruminam incessantemente
como se estivessem a rezar o terço
e
enquanto mastigam olham como um boi para o palácio

contudo
nem tudo é um mar de rosas
animais que não pastam ficam de atalaia
à espera do momento certo de irem ao talho
e depois a carnificina
justifica-lhes o brilho do pelo

#

e que dizer do homem a ruminar também?
há por aí muitos vegetarianos
às vezes comem camarão e ameijoas à Bulhão Pato
em nome da diversidade alimentar
e da plutocracia
o vinho é pago separadamente
e as gorjetas não são permitidas

#

e agora parece-me que vou continuar a contemplar o prado
e decidir se quero ou não ser vegetariano
