A ryokan is a type of traditional Japanese inn that typically feature tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and other public areas where visitors may wear yukata and talk with the owner. Ryokans are usualy decorated in a traditional Japanese style - you can see wall paintings with cana or hieroglyphs, characteristic drawings, as well as ikebans decorating the interior. Ryokans have existed since the eighth century A.D.
