1758 Eulithis pyraliata (Barred Straw)
1776 Colostygia pectinataria (Green Carpet)

Geometridae, Larentiinae:
Quite a difficult family to take these pictures of, they have a very low profile at rest, or they are hyper-active after being disturbed.
See Album: Geometridae
1784 Melanthia procellata (Pretty Chalk Carpet)
1890 Macaria alternata (Sharp-angled Peacock)
1920 Odontopera bidentata (Scalloped Hazel)
1921 Crocallis elinguaria (Scalloped Oak)
1931 Biston betularia (Peppered Moth)

Geometridae, Ennominae
I think that this one has been on the Amber Nectar :). Could be why he wasn't too keen to take to the air yet!
See Album: Geometridae
"Mirror Mirror on the Wall".....

Lasiocampidae:
1640 Euthrix potatoria (Drinker Moth) Female
This little lady looks strange, but to her species she may be very attractive.
See Album: Small Families 2
1972 Agrias Convolvuli (Convolvulus Hawkmoth)
|
|
Sphingidae:
A powerful occasional migrant most years to the UK, and certainly very widespread, and probably World-wide. This one stopped off in our garden, but was just passing through.
See Album: Small Families 2
1991 Deilephila elpenor (Elephant Hawkmoth)
|
|
Sphingidae:
Here's the first moth I've seen which wears a Bow Tie! Obviously dressed for a night out. :)
See Album: Small Families 2
1994 Phalera bucephala (Buff-tip)
|
|
Notodontidae, Phalerinae:
Looks like two faces on this moth. I've never seen a moth with a "Frown" (lower real head) and a "Smiley Face" (in thorax fur) at the same time! Not noticed the thorax pattern before.
See Album: Small Families 2
1995 Cerura vinula (Puss Moth)
|
|
|
|
Notodontidae, Notodontinae. Wingspan: 80mm.
The feathery antennae and the glowing eyes makes this little insect look quite threatening.
See Album: Small Families 2
1997 Furcula furcula (Sallow Kitten)
2003 Notodonta ziczac (Pebble Prominent)
2007 Pheosia tremula (Swallow Prominent)
2033 Lymantria monacha (Black Arches) Male
|
|
Erebidae, Lymantriinae Wingspan: 46mm.
"The Stare" - Sometimes moths eyes light up, but this one certainly is intense. Strangely only one other insect which came in at the group trapping event here reflected light at all.
See Album: Small Families 2
2057 Arctia caja (Garden Tiger)
