His father was baritone Maurice Devriès (1854–1919). He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and débuted in the role of Gérald in Delibes's “Lakmé” at the Opéra-Comique, where he regularly performed. His repertoire included Almaviva, Don José, Toinet in “Le chemineau”, Clément in “La Basoche,” Armand in Massenet's “Thérèse”, Alfredo, Jean in “Sapho”, Rabaud's “Mârouf”, Vincent in “Mireille”, Wilhelm in “Mignon”, Pedro in Laparra's “La habanera”, Des Grieux, Werther, Julien, Pinkerton and Cavaradossi . He created roles in the operas “Aphrodite” (Philodème), “Les Armaillis” (Hansli), “Circé” (Helpénor), “Le roi aveugle” (Ymer) and “La Victoire” (un Brigadier), at the Opéra-Comique. He also gave the world premiere of Boulanger's song cycle 'Clairières dans le Ciel', In 1909-10 Devriès took part in the final season of Oscar Hammerstein I's Manhattan Opera Company, singing French opera, including Pelléas et Mélisande, which he also performed in 1910 at Covent Garden. He created the role of Paco in Manuel de Falla's “La vie breve”. He was also a active singer in oratorio, in works ranging from J. S. Bach's St Matthew Passion to Berlioz' The Damnation of Faust.At the Paris Concerts du Conservatoire Devriès sang in the B Minor Mass of J. S. Bach (1908, 1926 and 1931), the St John Passion of J. S. Bach (1914), in Beethoven's Choral Symphony (1926, and at the Beethoven centenary concert in 1927) and the 2nd part of L'enfance du Christ by Berlioz (1931).

When his father finished in 1900 his stage career at the Grand Opéra, he became his successor; here his role’s were Saint Bris in ‘’Huguenots’’ by Meyerbeer. Remained untill 1930 . In 1910 he created at the Opera House in Monte Carlo in the premiere of Massenet’s ‘’Don Quichotte’’ the role of Sancho Panza, He also sang in the premieres of the operas Césaire in ‘’Sapho’’ by Massenet 1897 Opera Comique, ‘’Le Juif Polonais’’ by Erlanger 1900 Opéra-Comique, ‘’Bacchus’’ by Massenet Grand Opéra Paris 1909), ‘’Le Miracle’’ by Húe 1910 Grand Opéra and ‘’Scémo’’ by Bachelet 1914 Grand Opéra. He sang at the Grand Opéra in the premières of several Wagner's operas and, also sang Fasolt ‘’Rheingold’’ 1909 ,Titurel ‘’Parsifal’’ 1914 and Marke ‘’Tristan’’, 1904,Retired. In 1930 and worked as a professor at the Paris Conservatory.

He studied the basics of acting and music with Manuel Carreira and Arturo Pontecchi, the principal conductor of the Teatro São Carlos, and gave his first public recital in 1879 at the Salão da Trindade in Lisbon. In 1881 he went to Milan for further studies tenor Corrado Miraglia, and later with the baritone Sebastiano Ronconi. Debut 1882 at the Teatro Principe as Amedeo in Sanremo as Amonasro in Verdi's “Aida”. Over the next four years he sang in the opera houses of Portugal, Spain and Italy, including the Teatro Costanzi in Rome where he sang Count de Luna in Verdi's Il trovatore and Severo in the theatre's first performance of Donizetti's “Poliuto”. He and his brother António, D'Andrade were engaged as singers at the Théâtre Privé d'Opéra in Moscow for the 1885/86 season. They appeared together in 1888 world premiere of Alfredo Keil's “Donna Bianca” at the Teatro São Carlos with Francisco as Adaour and António as Aben-Afan. In 1886 he was at the Royal Italian Opera in London. His roles included Renato “Ballo in maschera”, Figaro “Il barbiere di Siviglia”, Escamillo “Carmen”, Giorgio Germont “La traviata”, Enrico Ashton “Lucia di Lammermoor”, Telramund “Lohengrin”, “ Rigoletto” and “Don Giovanni” In 1901 he sang Don Giovanni at the Salzburg Festival .In Germany he sang regularly with the Frankfurt Opera from 1891 to 1910 as well as several other major German opera houses. Berlin Hofoper in 1889. He retired from the stage in 1919.
