He arrived in 1852 as apprentice to the Viennese theater in the Leopoldstadt and completed during this time his further education. In 1857 he began his solo career as the first bass player at the State Theatre of Linz (Danube). He then sang at the Opera House of Lwów (Lviv) and the Municipal Theatre of Basel.
