Located at October 5th Square, Leiria, this building was initially an agency of the Bank of Portugal. Some decades later it became a gallery of arts exhibition. It was projected by Ernesto Korrodi (1870-1944), architect born in Zürich. He moved to Braga, Portugal, in 1889 and settled for good in Leiria in 1894, where he projected the restoration of the castle and created other buildings (including this magnificent one), not only in Leiria but also in other cities and towns. He obtained The Portuguese citizenship, changing his first name from Ernst to Ernesto.
