Skeletons of victims of Vesuvius' eruption.

They were all discovered in boathouses they sought for shelter, believing it was the safest place in Herculaneum. The air and the ashes were so hot that brains inflated and exploded, leaving the skulls by holes or cracks produced in the process. During centuries skeletons remained buried in mud.
