António Aleixo was a popular spontaneous poet, with a humble background and almost illiterate. Born at Vila Real de Santo António in 1899, he worked as weaver, as police agent, as mason (in France) and as a lottery street seller at Loulé, where he died of tuberculosis in 1949. This statue represents the chair and the table he used to occupy in a local café that still exists. The real table and chair can be seen in the Castle Museum. This statue can be seen at Republic Square, Loulé.
