National Observatory of Athens
GREECE: The historic central building of the National Observatory of Athens, with the church if Aghia Marina at the foreground.

The observatory bulding was designed by Theophil Hansen. It was founded in 1842 and inaugurated in 1846. The dome housed a 6.2 in refractor telescope used by J. F. Julius Schmidt to create the definitive topographical map of the Moon.
