dinner on our own in Shanghai

We were turned loose to have dinner on our own one night in Shanghai. Pat and I chose a busy restaraunt, probably one cut above fast food. We figured that if so many locals ate there, the food must be decent at worst.

We soon learned that our waiter spoke no English, and understood none. Luckily, a young woman at the next table took charge of us and sent her companion to get the waiter to bring us some tea. She also helped us make selections from the menu. With her help, what could have been a frustrating experience was nothing of the sort. And the food turned out to be quite filling and flavorful. This was the first course.
