In Mitteleuropa reicht die Blütezeit von Ende April bis Juni, die Fruchtreife von Juni bis Juli.

Der Fieberklee ist eine Pionierpflanze, die in Flachwasser vordringt, zur Verlandung beiträgt und so den Lebensraum für andere Arten bereitet, von denen er schließlich verdrängt wird. Als häufige Begleiter treten Braun-Segge (Carex nigra), Sumpf-Blutauge (Potentilla palustris), Sumpf-Veilchen (Viola palustris) und Schmalblättriges Wollgras (Eriophorum angustifolium) auf.
