Hever Castle- window views

Hever Castle- window views
Anne Boleyn who was born at Hever Castle wouldn't have seen the "Tudor" buildings in the background as they were built in the 20th century by the Astors;-)
www.hevercastle.co.uk

Anne Boleyn, die in Hever geboren wurde, hätte diese Aussicht nicht sehen können. Die Häuser im Hintergrund sind frühes 20.Jh "pseudo-Tudor", erbaut unter den jetzigen Eignern, den Astors.

Many thanks, Andy! It's the first time I went to Hever and its lovely gardens because it was included in our organized tour. The entrance fees nearly everywhere are quite steep;-)

I went at a time when I was a National Trust member, had their sticker on my windscreen (the system has changed now) so didn't have to pay the car park or entrance fee.
I do recall that it was on the hottest day ever recorded in England (101.3 fahrenheit, or 38.5 celsius). This was on August 10, 2003 and was recorded at Faversham, Kent, so not a million miles from Hever Castle. I was with my sister's Spanish family and even they felt it as it was combined with high humidity, not something usually they suffer from in Madrid!
We all enjoyed the visit though, including a picnic on the grassy slopes above the moat. There, I recall the pleasing shade from the mulberry trees which had the largest, ripest and sweetest fruit I can ever recall (and that includes from the South of France).

Wow, 38,5! We had about 10 degrees less but the humidity was also pretty bad. Mulberries, how lovely! There used to be two trees in my hometown but the owner had them felled one day because the fruit made such a mess....
I'm amazed you got into Hever for free as an NT member, these days it's private.
In my interrailing days I had a NT Scotland membership ( that was cheaper!) where I could also visit English and Welsh properties for free which isn't possible any longer.
