I hadn't considered the composition of the humble brick before. What you suggest is very likely. In addition, brick is a delineator of boundaries, a feast of texture, a restful symmetry, a colourful counterpoint in a largely green environment, a marker of historic development ... phew! I could go on, but I'll spare you.
