Who now remembers the West Wilts Water Board? Subsumed by the Wessex Water Authority in 1973, which was privatised in 1989, taken over by Enron in 1998 and, most recently, bought by the Malaysian power company YTL Corporation in 2002. Strange to think you are buying your water from Kuala Lumpur.
Herbert and Young of Cinderford stopped producing iron and steel castings around 1990. They have left plenty of memorials to their industry. However, the number is diminishing as thieves plunder street furniture for its increasing value as scrap.
What does the blue cross indicate? Presumably it is some kind of code.
Photographed with a Canon PowerShot SX120IS.
