Odd - Upside Down Lantern

This is a solar lantern turned upside down. Notice the little flame.
After a day in the sun, I brought it in because it was terribly windy. Put it on the kitchen table and it wouldn't light. I cursed and was annoyed because I figure just another piece of junk from Amazon. I looked for a switch and the switch was already on. Still no light when right side up. Then I accidentally turned it upside down as it is now and the thing lit. Again I said piece of junk from Amazon.
Light bulb moment.....until I realized that I had overhead lights on the kitchen. In order for the lantern to come on, it needs darkness. When I turned it upside down, it was dark on the solar side. When I turned the overhead lights in the kitchen off, it lit up.
Go figure!!!!!
